EXTREME MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

Wicked Outfitter manages over 15,000 acres of prime property. All of the property under management have Wicked genetics. We plant food plots throughout all our properties to keep the deer healthy and keep the deer on the property. The most important thing about wildlife management is understanding that without a healthy deer herd, you have good genetics. The deer health and population on each of our properties is phenomenal. Most of the properties have a 2 or 3 to 1, doe to buck ratio. Every season we have doe management hunts to keep the numbers in the right ratios, which allow us to manage the bucks on our properties to large numbers of 170 to 200 inch class deer. If you need a little more proof check out our trail cam pics, they speak for themselves. There are no Trophy fees for killing a Trophy Buck but there is a $1000.00 fee for killing a deer under 3 years old or under 130 inches. This encourages you to help us manage the quality of future hunts.

YEAR ROUND MANAGEMENT AND SCOUTING

Every year when spring hits and turkeys are sounding off in the timber, the Wicked Outfitting team is scowering the property for sheds and signs of how the deer herd survived the winter. Once the deer begin putting on head gear we start hanging cameras. Having several cameras on every track of property throughout the season allows us to increase the odds of putting our clients on a once in a lifetime whitetail buck. The deer go through multiple cycles throughout the season. In each cycle, the deer move in different patterns and with each cycle we change our scouting techniques to accommodate the change.

SUMMER RANGE

The first cycle falls during the summer range which is the early season. Bucks are in bachelor groups and are getting ready to sort out the pecking order before heading into their fall range. This is right before, or during the muzzleloader season in Kansas, which is a great time to find a buck in the open, still feeding in agriculture fields. Our strategy for hunting this cycle is to catch them coming from the bedding area to the food source.

FALL RANGE

The fall range has two distinctive cycles. The second cycle during the hunting season is the transition from the fall pattern to the rut. Once we have our bucks patterned in rut cycle, it quickly becomes a circus and the bucks are chasing does everywhere. During the rut period, we no longer hunt bucks, we hunt the does. We set up where there are large concentrations of does and heavily traveled corridor areas. The third cycle of the season happens when the bucks are coming off the rut and are finding a food source to regain their strength. This cycle we find it better to hunt the heavily timbered areas mainly because the deer feel safer in cover and they have been pressured to become more nocturnal. Every single stand location Wicked Outfitters sets up is done by strategic decision making as a result of our year round management techniques and scouting report. We take the factors of thermals, winds, and entry and exits capabilities, very seriously when choosing our stand sites. We want your stand location to be one that we would hunt.
